Brand NUmass

So, here goes. My very first Blog. Boy this is exciting. First, I feel I should explain the title and a little bit about myself. This is my first semester here at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I started my educational career in Acton, Massachetts. Upon graduating, for whatever reason, I felt the need to "get out there," so I attended Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. After a year there, I went back home for a year and a half to attend Middlesex Community College in Bedford, MA. Which brings me here. I moved into my new dorm in Coolidge Hall in the southwest residential area of campus, which is known as the partying/loud section of campus. In the UMass guide to residence halls, it is pleasantly described as "bright lights, big city." So, you should be surprised to know that I am writing this at almost midnight on my first Friday night as a UMass student. Not to say that I am against the partying that is taking place in most other places around campus, it's just that having been in school for almost three years has put my priorities in order. Part of the reason I'm sitting at my computer is that I am more interested in the classes I'm currently taking than I have ever been before. I mean, I'm spouting off random thoughts and opinions--for college credit! Which brings me to the other aspect that I've enjoyed so much about my few short days on campus--the size. I'm not talking about the amount of people, which is also nice. I'm talking about the ridiculous amount of resources available around here. That's something I can really appreciate coming out of a community college. I've already been given an assignment for the school newspaper, I'm working out with the soccer team (there were no teams at Middlesex), and there are several organizations on campus vying for my varied skills. Speaking of which, before this gets too long-winded, I must devote some time to keeping those skills finely tuned by doing homework for my other classes. Until next time, keep it real!
